A message from President Hillary Netardus & Artistic Director, David Palmer
Dear Friends,
What an extraordinarily different time we find ourselves in! We are profoundly shocked from the loss caused by this pandemic and the important but equally challenging racial issues brought into sharp focus by the Black Lives Matters movement and yet, we are awed by the efforts being made to return our society to good health physically and with equality, both of which are of the utmost importance. As we are sure you all know, the arts have been hit very hard during the last several months due to COVID-19. We are extremely grateful to all the artists who are working to move forward while we all wait for a resolution of this pandemic.
After many consultations with peer organizations from the region and beyond, Chamber Music Amarillo has decided to move forward with our 2020-21 concert season. We anticipate many changes from the experience of past concerts. However, we are preserving the most important part of our brand: the musicians playing the music for you!
In an effort to meet the ongoing recommendations from the CDC and the Amarillo Health Department, none of our performances will be held in the Fibonacci Space but will instead be held in larger venues. This will allow us to provide social distancing, while still giving our audience a wonderful artistic experience. At this time, we believe that masks will also play an important role in our events as we seek to protect our audience members and our musicians. Additionally, Chamber Music Amarillo has designed our season so that we can present fewer musicians in the fall and larger ensembles in the spring, when we hope to see a vaccine in place. Finally, as CMA works to provide our audience members with the wonderful experience of chamber music while also helping to keep you safe, we are adding the option for you to watch and hear our performances from your home in lieu of attending the performance in person. We look forward to keeping you apprised of this plan as the season approaches.
The musicians joining us on stage are eager to perform for you and we have programmed a wonderful season of music from the incomparable Bach, Cello Suites performed by Jeffrey Lastrapes to the beautiful telling of a simpler life in America, Barber’s, Knoxville, Summer of 1915 featuring Amarillo’s very own soprano, Sarah Beckham Turner. This music and much more await you at Chamber Music Amarillo. It is in this spirit of presenting the arts that we support the efforts of those on the front lines of this pandemic and those spearheading important social change in the Black Lives Matters movement, for art is surely the greatest expression of the struggles and triumphs of humanity.
We are so grateful to you for your commitment to CMA and to the great expression of music. Thank you! The Board of Directors, Staff and Musicians look forward to seeing you this fall.
With much appreciation,
Hillary Netardus & David Palmer
